Application Directions

LAWNS: When applying fertilizer, it is important to remember that a uniform distribution is essential.  For luxurious lawns that have the rich, green, golf course look, apply Chickity Doo Doo™ every 10-12 weeks of your grass growing season at the rate of 20 lbs. per 1,000 sq. feet for the first seasonal application and 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. feet for each application thereafter.  Set your spreader to 75% open to spread at a rate of 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. feet of lawn.  (Varations in walking speed and spreader brands may require some slight adjustments in your setting.)  To apply 20 lbs. per 1,000 sq. feet, we recommend that you set your spreader to 75% open, and make two passes over the area you want to fertilize.  For new lawns, apply Chickity Doo Doo™ at a rate of 20 lbs. per 1,000 sq. feet prior to seeding or sodding.  Work into the soil to a depth of 1-2 inches.  Seed or sod immediately after applying Chickity Doo Doo™.  Reapply every 10-12 weeks at a rate of 10 lbs. per 1,000 sq. feet.  It is not necessary to water in Chickity Doo Doo™, however, applying water will activate fertilizer and faster results can be achieved.

FLOWERS & VEGETABLE GARDENS: For perennials, apply fertilizer early in the spring and again after plants have bloomed to give plants strength for the following season.  Apply 1-2 lbs. per 100 sq. feet to base of plants and rake lightly into soil.  For annuals, apply fertilizer at the time of planting at the rate of 2 lbs. per 100 sq. feet of seed bed and work into the soil.  When flower buds have formed, reapply at 1-2 lbs. per 100 sq. feet and rake lightly into soil.  For other small applications, two cups of Chickity Doo Doo™ equals 1 lb.

SHRUBS: For single shrub planting, the amount to use will depend upon the size of the shrub.  We recommend mixing one cup of fertilizer into the soil used to fill around the root ball.  For new shrub beds, apply fertilizer into the soil at the rate of 2 lbs. per 100 sq. feet and work thoroughly into the soil before planting.  For established shrub beds, apply fertilizer around the base of the plant and scratch lightly into the soil using one cup for each plant.  This should be done twice a year (early spring and early summer)

PRECAUTIONS: Do not apply directly after using other high-nitrogen fertilizers Chickity Doo Doo™ Organic Fertilizer should always be stored in a cool, dry place. Exposure to moisture will cause granular product to breakdown and result in inability to spread. For storage after use, partially used bags should be closed tightly. As with all fertilizer products, proper precautions should be taken: use gloves, wash hands after use, wash vegetables before eating, store product immediately after use, etc. If you are allergic to chickens or feathers, avoid directly handling Chickity Doo Doo™ Organic Fertilizer, or breathing the dust. This fertilizer is intended for agricultural and horticultural application only, and is not for human or animal consumption. In case of contact with eyes or skin, rinse thoroughly with water. Handle in well ventilated area. Inhaling dust from this or any other similar product may cause or aggravate respiratory ailments. Store bag in a safe, secure and dry place.

Spreader Settings

If you have never used an organic fertilizer then we recommend that you apply 20 lbs. per 1,000 sq. feet of Chickity Doo Doo™.   This will give your lawn a great start with all of the macro and micro nutrients that have been lacking in your soil.  It will also give your soil a boost of microorganisms and a big dose of carbon to jump start your lawn.  After the first time you use Chickity Doo Doo™, you can then apply it every 10 to 12 weeks at a rate of 10 lbs per 1,000 square feet. This will meet your lawns requirements for nutrition.  The more you use Chickity Doo Doo™, the better your lawn will look.  Chickity Doo Doo™ is a safe product that will not burn your lawn.

The spreader settings can vary based on your spreader brand and how fast you walk.  It is always a good idea to calibrate your spreader so you know exactly what you are putting down on your lawn.

To calibrate your spreader.

  • Set your spreader so that the opening(s) in the bottom are about 3/4 open when engaged.
  • Put in about 10 pounds of Chickity Doo Doo into your spreader.
  • Begin fertilizing your lawn, starting along an edge, and continue until the spreader is empty. Leave the spreader where it was when it ran out of
    Chickity Doo Doo.
  • Measure the area of lawn you fertilized. If you want to apply one pound of Nitrogen per 1000 square feet then you should have covered about 500 square feet (20 ‘ x 25 ‘, 10 ‘ x 50 ‘, etc.). If you want to apply one half of a pound per 1000 square feet then you should have covered 1000 square feet. If you have accomplished what you are looking for then, skip steps 5 and 6 and continue fertilizing your lawn at then same pace and spreader opening. If not, go to step 5 or 6.
  • If you covered much more than 500 square feet, increase the size of the opening(s) in the bottom of the spreader and repeat steps 2-4 on an unfertilized lawn area.
  • If you covered much less than 500 square feet, decrease the size of the opening(s) in the bottom of the spreader and repeat steps 2-4 on an unfertilized lawn area.
