I ‘heart’ Container Gardening!
by Jenny Keener
“I have an idea!” These are words that immediately cause my husband to stop paying attention and simply nod and smile, occasionally offering a pretty convincing “hmmm” or “Uh huh”.
But I know that you, dear reader, will not merely pretend to pay attention. (Even if you are only pretending, I’ll never know, so don’t tell me.)
Anyway, back to “the idea”: Container gardening. Yep, that’s my idea. I know it’s not very inventive, but I live way out in the middle of nowhere and have endless space for flower beds. I’d have never thought I’d abandon my roomy plots, but sometimes circumstances conspire to create a necessity that becomes a joy.
Let me introduce you to my conspirators:

My chickens dig up every single flower bed I try to create and they drive me absolutely crazy.

My dogs trample everything in my flower beds. They don’t drive me crazy because I’ve already been driven crazy and one can’t be driven to where one already is.

My helpful children are willing to weed a little in the flower bed or the vegetable garden… but not both on the same day.

So, I’m going to create beautiful containers like these and I am so excited! As usual, we will be carrying incredibly beautiful flowers and containers to plant them in.

However, I don’t know what I’m going to do with the recently abandoned flower beds. I’m thinking of selling them to the chickens.
Cheep.
