Tip - Customers often ask, "How can I tell when my barbecue tank is empty?" Many people use gauges that are heat sensitive and are glued on the side of the tank. If hot water is poured on these gauges a color change will indicate the amount of propane in the tank. Another way is to look at the metal ring on the top of the tank. There are letters and numbers stamped into the metal. Look for "TW" followed by a number. This is the empty weight of the tank. Usually it is between 18 and 20 pounds for a standard tank. If you put the tank onto a bathroom scale and it is heavier than the TW number, the extra weight is propane still in the tank. One full tank contains approximately 20 pounds of propane. |
