Step 1 - What is your soil like? Our soil is blended and sifted by us. We start with a good quality topsoil and then add additional concrete sand and compost to improve the texture and fertility. This is a terrific soil for lawn and bedding applications. We also carry a Top Dressing Mix for application to established lawns. Top dressing is not actually a soil, but it can be added to your native soil as a supplement. This mix is a blend of humus and sharp sand and is excellent for repair of existing lawns. For information about top dressing application click here. We also carry a large selection of bagged soils. Many of these have special amendments such as peat, chicken manure or composted cow manure. |

Step 2 - When can I have soil delivered? During the Spring and Summer we can deliver soil any day of the week during business hours. We will not deliver soil when it is raining. If it is raining at your scheduled delivery time, we will call to reschedule. We only deliver soil to locations in northern Ohio. Our soils are all stored in dry conditions and we will do everything possible to make sure it is dry when you get it. Obviously Saturdays or Sundays are more popular for deliveries, so if that is the day you want, be sure to call earlier. "Plan ahead" is always the best advice. |

Step 3 - How much soil do I need? Bulk soil is sold by the cubic yard. A cubic yard would fill a box that is 3 feet on each edge. One cubic yard of soil will cover an area of 160 square feet 2 inches deep. Before calling us with your order, measure the area that you have in mind for the soil application - length, width and depth are enough - and we can calculate the soil amount that you need. Top dressing application is usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick so a yard of top dressing would be sufficient for 1000 square feet of lawn. A bag of soil usually weighs 40 pounds. There are 52 40 pound bags in a cubic yard. One bag of soil would cover 3 square feet 2 inches deep. |

Step 4 - Where can the soil be delivered? Before you call with your order for soil, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our smaller truck can carry 6 yards of soil and our larger truck can carry 15 yards. They both have considerable weight even when empty. We cannot dump your soil in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface - paving, concrete, asphalt or packed gravel. Usually we deliver to some location on the homeowner's drive. Marking the location by spreading a tarp on the drive before the time of delivery is especially helpful. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. The truck bed has to tilt to dump the mulch so it requires sufficient overhead clearance. Our smaller truck requires at least 15 feet of overhead clearance and the larger truck requires at least 18 feet. If rain is expected, it is necessary that the homeowner be prepared to cover the soil with a tarp if it cannot be moved before the change in the weather. |

Step 5 - How do I place my order? Call the Rock Pile at the number at the top of this page. Have your measurements ready, the delivery location, and the form of payment. We can accept a credit card - Visa, Master Card or Discover - or you can pay with a check or cash at the time of the delivery. There is a delivery charge and a minimum volume based on location. The delivery charge is in addition to the price of the soil. If you have any additional questions about delivery or about our products, we would be happy to answer them at the time of your call. Of course you can also place your order by coming into our store at 900 Nagel Road. |
