Step 1 - Which gravel should I order? The decision as to which gravel to order depends on three things - price, esthetics and use. We have a large selection of gravels both in bulk and in bags at the Rock Pile. Some gravels - #8 or #57 limestone for example - are crushed stone and are suitable for driveways or paths. Other types are river gravels and consist of rounded rocks. These are available in several sizes and colors. River gravels are attractive in a multitude of landscape applications. Specialty gravels like #411 limestone are used as a base for pavers or flagstones. There are pictures of different gravels on this website and we have samples in our store that can help you with your selection. We are always available to answer questions about our products. |

Step 2 - When can I have gravel delivered? We can deliver gravel any day of the week during business hours. Be sure to "plan ahead" to make certain that the material is delivered to your site when it is needed for your project. We only deliver gravels to locations in northern Ohio. If you would like to have gravel shipped, please call us for a quote. |

Step 3 - How much gravel do I need? Applications for gravel are usually measured by volume, but gravel is sold by weight. For example in a driveway application using #57 limestone, one ton covers approximately 100 square feet at 2 inches deep. Different gravels have different coverage depending on the size and density of the stone. For example one ton of #57 River Gravel covers 100 square feet 2 inches deep while one ton of Red Lava would cover 160 square feet 2 inches deep. Many gravels are sold in bags. Usually these bags are 1/2 of a cubic foot. A 1/2 cubic foot bag of gravel would cover 3 square feet, 2 inches deep. For other gravel applications such as surrounding drainage pipes, paths, base for pavers, surrounding swimming pools etc., if you call the Rock Pile with the measurements for your project, we will be glad to help you calculate the gravel tonnage that you need. |

Step 4 - Where can gravel be delivered? Before you call with your order for gravel, give some consideration to where you would like us to dump it on your property. Our small trucks can hold 6.5 tons of stone and our larger truck can hold 15 tons of gravel. We cannot dump your gravel in any location that requires the wheels of the truck to leave a hard surface - paving, concrete, asphalt or packed gravel. Usually we deliver to some location on the homeowner's drive. Marking the location by spreading a tarp on the drive before the time of delivery is especially helpful. Be sure to pay attention to overhead wires or tree limbs. Our smallest truck needs at least 15 feet of overhead clearance and our larger truck requires 18 feet. The truck bed has to tilt to dump the gravel so it requires sufficient overhead clearance. It is possible to spread the limestone in a drive by "tailgating" the load. This helps spread the gravel on the drive, but it does not insure that the homeowner will not have to smooth the rock with a rake. |

Step 5 - How do I place my order? Call the Rock Pile at the number at the top of this page. Have your measurements ready, the type of gravel that you want, the delivery location, and the form of payment. We can accept a credit card - Visa, Master Card or Discover - or you can pay with a check or cash at the time of the delivery. There is a delivery charge and a minimum tonnage based on location. The delivery charge is in addition to the price of the gravel. The exact weight of the gravel is measured at the time of departure from the Rock Pile. This is the weight that the customer would pay for. If you have any additional questions about delivery or about our products, we would be happy to answer them at the time of your call. Of course you can also place your order by coming into our store at 900 Nagel Road. |
