Oriole

May…

Baltimore Oriole

We are featuring 2 birds this month! For information on Hummingbirds check out April’s Stone Tablet (now located in the center of the Town Money Saver)or CLICK HERE.

Orioles are among a birder’s favorites in spring. Hopefully you have already seen these beautiful birds. Often seen in parks and other open areas with scattered trees you’ll find the Oriole either nesting, or probing the trees for insects. Nests will be gourd shaped and woven from materials like hair and plant fibers. Look for these nests hanging from the rims of thin branches or a fork in a tall tree.

If it seems like all you see are female orioles, not to worry. Young male Baltimore Orioles do not achieve adult plumage until the fall of their second year. But some first-year males with female-like plumage succeed in attracting a mate and nest successfully. To attract these lovely birds, offer feed choices they’ll love! An Oriole’s diet consists of caterpillars, insects, spiders, fruit, nectar and their favorite treat… Jelly! Now you can save on Bird Berry Jelly with our special coupon below!
