Carolina Wren

Carolina Wren

Carolina Wrens can be found in a wide range of habitats however they do require moderately dense shrubs or brushy cover. More likely to nest in a tree cavity than a bird house, their nests are rarely higher than 10 feet off the ground. This bird’s diet mainly consists of insects and spiders but may eat a few seeds. But the really neat thing about this bird is its “tea-kettle” song. Not only is it one of the loudest songs per volume of bird but unlike other wren species, the male and female sing different parts and usually interweave their songs so they sound like a single bird singing. The male sings the loud part while the female is quieter. A pair will stay together of life creating beautiful musical duets.

We have a pair of wrens (maybe Carolina) that we have named Mr.& Mrs. Happy! They have nested in a bird house on our deck and have babies. We just love the song/songs they sing and they make us smile when we hear them. They are our summer TV and we love hearing them sing all day long! What a happy couple they make. We can’t wait to see the babies!
